I have personally been loving Zyderma for years, since before I asked them to join us at the launch of Indie Beauty Expo! Seeing the smiling faces of Zyderma Founders, Kelly + Rick always gives me the warm fuzzies... I love couples who are also business partners, don't you?! It inspires us all, to see that it is possible to share a passion and to go after a dream, hand-in-hand!
They strongly value a forward-thinking, eco-scientific approach to daily skin care. With the concept that rather than replace the body’s mechanisms, products should support & strengthen our skin’s biome - a veritable “pharmacy” of microflora that are an integral part of a healthy appearance. According to Kelly + Rick, this is a more responsible approach to skincare than solely relying on conventional products with harsh ingredients and sanitizers that strip healthy organisms (or microflora) that our skin relies upon to maintain a healthy and balanced appearance.
We are happy to announce that Zyderma has landed at VIBES Lifestyle + here are a few products from the line-up:
This Clarifying Cream is a very unique blend of skin nurturing ingredients along with micro-silver, which assists in supporting the skin's healthy appearance, while cleansing the skin of environmental microorganisms. This cream is ideal for daily use and care of sensitive skin with up to 24 hour protection. With its velvety smooth, but almost imperceptible finish, the Clarifying Cream acts as a fabulous makeup primer! It is also Dermatologist-tested, hypoallergenic and a non-irritant that is suitable for people of all ages.
The Konjac Facial Sponge is hand-made with food grade konjac powder harvested and manufactured on the volcanic islet of JeJu Island, South Korea, with an infusion of fine-mesh Brazilian tourmaline crystal powder. This sponge is highly absorbent in both water and oils; and, is excellent for gentle daily exfoliation and a thorough cleansing of impurities while respecting the integrity of the stratum corneum for a smoother and more radiant looking complexion. The pillow-soft texture provides a gentle cleansing experience and is suitable for all skin types.
Instructions for Use:
Fully hydrate sponge prior to use. Do not use a dry sponge on skin
Gently massage the skin in a circular motion
Rinse sponge after use and squeeze out excess water
Hang to dry. Do not wring, as this may damage sponge fibres
Replace sponge every 2-3 months.
Use in combination with the Foaming Cleanser for a luxurious cleansing experience. Follow-up with the Clarifying Cream for a protective and light moisturizing barrier that supports the skins healthy appearance.
It is a semi-precious gemstone with unique minerals (magnesium, iron, boric acid, silicon, and calcium) that are imparted to the skin with each use.
Negatively charged Anions, activated by water, helps keep the sponge cleansed of microorganisms between uses.
Creates a better, safer product.
Ingredients: Amorphophallus Konjac Root Powder, Aqua, Tourmaline, Cellulose.

Interview With Kelly Muciy, Co-Founder of Zyderma HS:
1- Where are you from originally + currently located? What are the pros and cons of being in this area?
We grew up in different small scenic towns that thrive on the bustle of summer tourism within the province of Ontario, Canada. We met in Ottawa, (24 years ago) and moved to Burlington, ON where we have planted our roots and established our business. There are mostly pros to being in this area because it has the beauty, warmth and feeling of a small-town with much of the summertime fun we grew-up with, coupled with it’s own vibrant urban culture; and, it’s in close proximity to Toronto with it’s own incredible vibe. The downside is that we do not have family in Burlington, so we travel quite a lot to visit loved ones. No complaints though, we otherwise receive a lot of love and support.
2- What inspired you to create Zyderma?
With extensive backgrounds in the cosmetic & healthcare industries, we have learned much about the harmful ingredients in most skin care products and the resulting side effects. And as doting parents and friends of sufferers with different skin disorders we became increasingly concerned with the lack of skin-friendly products. Always on the look out for innovative ingredients, Micronized silver was introduced, and the team quickly recognized its unique value and potential to become a game changer.
3- How did that name come about?
Zyderma is “The fusion of Nature & Science for responsible skin care”.
If one were to take a closer look, “Zy” in-and-of itself nods to the union of nature, biology, medicine, and spirituality. “Derma” of course, means skin, our body’s protective covering, the very thing we are trying to support.
4- What is your favorite color + aroma? What memories do these two things bring to mind?
Rick’s favourite colour is our Zyderma Blue, which he chose it for the brand. His favourite aroma is campfire. These bring him back to his time growing up along the shores of Georgian Bay.
My favourite colour is Aqua, which could also be Zyderma Blue. Its an uplifting colour that emits a balancing, positive vibe and reminds me of my favourite gemstones (turquoise and aquamarine). I love the aroma of freshly brewed coffee for the same reasons I love aqua, its energizing but also warm and soothing.
5- Why do you think ingredients are important to some and not to others?
If you're asking about consumers, it seems that there are two “general” camps.
The first, are those who are indifferent to their own well-being and care more for appearance than for the health of their bodies and the environment. Others are simply unaware of the harm posed by “dirty” products. They are unquestioning and blindly trust the intentions of large corporate brands that are solely motivated by profit.
The second, are those who seek balance in their products, wanting the performance of mainstream with the health benefits “clean” ingredients. Often the shift in perspective stems from an experience linked to health issues (allergies, intolerances, disease, etc.) and/or as an environmental, social/emotional response to injustices in the world.
6- What are the top five tips that you would give someone who wants to start their own business?
Is it okay if we add a sixth?
One product does not make a company. But, one product does establish a brand.
Your path will not be a straight line.
Every crisis bares opportunity.
Only borrow money when you don’t need it.
Whoever said partnerships are sinking ships missed the boat.
Succeed to fail, or you will fail to succeed.
7- If you could go back and do it all over again, is there anything you would change? If so, what and why?
To be honest, we have thought about this over the years, and we both agree that if we could go back in time and change something, we would not necessarily be where we are today. We believe that in our life’s journey that a path has been laid out for us, and while we can’t always know, or like, what’s going to happen or how we’ll get there, we have to trust, have faith that it's what’s intended for us.
8- What or who inspires you most, and why?
Any leader who truly put others ahead of themselves.
9- What are some of the greatest challenges that you've had to overcome + What are some of the greatest rewards?
Keeping it real here. Partnerships. Failures with suppliers, formulators, and manufacturers during the initial stages of our start-up. Over time and at great cost we eventually found reputable vendors. It was through this arduous journey, that we made discoveries otherwise unrealized. Every crisis further shaped our brand, exposed us to new markets, streamlined sales & logistics and greatly deepened our abilities in formulation.
10- If you could bring one celebrity back to life, who would it be and why?
John Lennon cause the world would stand up and listen. 😊
We hope that you enjoyed this interview as much as we did, and you can also
