Living Longer

Let's face it, some people are living longer, and some people are dying sooner. The difference is the focus on wellness. By eating plant based diets, staying active physically and mentally, you can extend not only your lifespan, but also your quality of life as a whole.

Holistic Wellness is not some woo-woo magic, as some like to say... it is the treatment of the mind, body and spirit as a whole, in order to maintain balance and wellbeing. Everything is connected, and with all of the stress and toxicity in this world, we often experience vibrational discord, which then manifests as illness and discomfort in the body. So, what may have begun as something unseen can become very real when it shows up as physical pain.

Now that we are living into our 100's, instead of passing on at 60 or 70 years old, that makes a huge difference in how long we need our bodies to last. Our body is our vessel, our transport vehicle for this lifetime, and it provides us with everything we need. This is why it is so imperative to preserve it as much as possible while you can.

At least one third of deaths could be prevented, according to Harvard University Medical School, if people would just make the switch to a plant based diet. Plant based diets not only improve our health, they also improve global sustainability! Leaders in the Wellness Industry are continuing to push and advocate for folks to start looking toward a diet that is packed with vegetables, fruits, whole grains, nuts, and legumes. It is recommended to steer clear of red meats, sugar and refined grains.

Staying active is another aspect that we are all very aware of, but still tends to fall by the wayside. How do we manage to stay active when life constantly beckons us to sit at our desks or lounge on our cell phones? It is key to find a type of movement that you actually like. If you attempt to incorporate a workout routine that you loathe, then you are less likely to be dedicated to it as a daily practice, You will probably try to stick with it for a little while, but then it may just fade away.

Do you enjoy dancing? If so, perhaps you can take a dance class and learn something new while also getting your physical fitness in. Have you always wanted to take up tennis? Maybe tennis lessons would be a good idea. Just make sure you are having fun! That is really the key. If you have a good time while you are being active, then you will raise your vibration and feel better overall! If you like jogging, then you will be happy to know that it can actually reverse the aging of major blood vessels, according to the researchers at University College London.

We already know that Alzheimer's, Dementia and other cognitive related issues are on the rise currently. This does not have to be so. Once we become more aware of what we are consuming, and this includes more than just food and beverages, we can begin to avoid developing these degenerative diseases.

A change in circumstances, like retirement, can bring about boredom and people tend to spend many hours in front of the tv screen being inactive. A good way to get the mind going again is to engage in a fun activity like gardening, joining a group or non profit. This can really shift things in terms of feeling a sense of purpose and satisfaction. The main reason that gardening is a great option is because there is a sense of satisfaction that comes from just having a nice, small herb garden with three or four herbs that you can use in daily dishes. That is a wonderful and easily manageable way to get started. Especially if you take all of the steps to research each herb in a book or via the internet, in order to learn about its various health benefits and uses. This engages your mind and allows you to appreciate the herb more, and to hopefully use it in more of your meals!
